News: 2009 PR Grants Available for Not-for-Profit Organizations

August 20, 2009: Crisis Response- Cedar Rapids Response to the Flood of 2008Jessica Palmer, Director of Marketing and Research at the Cedar Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CRACVB) will be speaking to local public relations, marketing and media professionals on August 20, 2009 at 3:00 pm at the Quad City Area REALTOR Association office located at 1900 State Street, Bettendorf, IA on behalf of the Public Relations Society of America – Quad Cities Chapter.  

Jessica will be speaking about the Cedar Rapids flood and the overall crisis response from your organization to the citizens and businesses.  Also she will talk about what was done as a city to overcome the devastation and how the community retained and encouraged area businesses to stay in the community after the floods. PRSA members, Local Public Relations, Marketing and Media professionals, students, and the general public are invited to hear Jessica discuss the CRACVB’s response and overall role in this crisis.

May 20, 2009: River Bandits Creative Mastermind to Speak to Local Media Professionals
Please join us for this FREE event where, Dave Heller, President of Main Street Baseball and the Managing Partner of the Quad Cities River Bandits is set to speak to local public relations, communications and media professionals on May 20, 2009 at 4:00 pm at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, IA on behalf of the Public Relations Society of America – Quad Cities Chapter.

A renewed interest in Quad Cities baseball is underway, thanks to the creative brainpower of one out-of-the-box thinker, Dave Heller. PRSA members, PR/Marketing professionals, local media, students, and the general public are invited to hear Dave discuss his overall vision and the future of the Quad Cities River Bandits. As well as the various media tactics used to turn a small ball park into one which was voted the Midwest League's best ballpark by Baseball America and earned a five-star rating from BallparkDigest.com.

As a special offer, to everyone who attends the May 20, 2009 PRSA program featuring Dave Heller, all attendees are invited to enjoy that evenings Quad Cities River Bandits home game against the Dayton Dragons at 7:00 pm, for free.

The Quad Cities Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and Alcoa invite you to an evening of networking for area public relations and media professionals.

Nov. 11, 2008: A case study: The role of new technology in crisis communications
Speaker: James O'Connor, assistant vice president for marketing and public relations at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls Recent tragedies on college campuses have raised questions about communications plans and tactics to protect students, faculty members and beyond. Mr. O'Connor will talk about dealing with crisis situations and how current technologies play a vital role in sharing important information quickly.

June 2008 meeting - Rulers of the New World: How to measure blogs, wikis and whatever they come up with next
With the increasing importance of blogs, wikis and other social media comes a whole new dimension to be measured. Many of the old rules still apply, but the old tools don't work. This workshop will outline the basic forms of new media measurement and provide techniques to put a measurement program in place. Bettendorf, IA – Sonja Sorrel is senior media relations consultant for the Life and Health Division of the Principal Financial Group® will be speaking to local public relations, marketing and media professionals on September 24, 2009 at 3:00 pm at the Butterworth Education Center located at the corner of 7th Street and 12th Avenue, Moline, IL on behalf of the Public Relations Society of America – Quad Cities Chapter.  

Sonja will be speaking about the impact the economy has had on the financial services industry and how it has changed the way they communicate. Also she will discuss what Principal did for employee communication, advertising and media relations and how it was measured. PRSA members, Local Public Relations, Marketing and Media professionals, students, and the general public are invited to hear Sonja discuss Principal’s new communication techniques.
